Our interview with Mount takes place a stone’s throw away from the first-team base at Chelsea’s Cobham instruction floor. The academy building is really a place he knows well as he shows to people by describing the way the classroom setting we are using was formerly a part of the gym.
“It has been a crazy first few weeks,” Mount told Sky Sports News.
“Sometimes it is quite odd on the practice pitch or even playing games looking across and seeing someone you’ve played for so many decades.
“Hopefully this year we can attempt to win a trophy and build on this in another couple of years.”
It is apparent the midfielder is benefiting from playing under Chelsea’s all-time leading scorer, with also been part of the Derby side of Lampard .
Lampard, together with Jody Morris and the backroom staff, believes at the childhood and Mount clarified:”You need to give that extra mile for him.
“Mentally you have got to prepare yourself. It’s a huge step and it doesn’t mean you’re likely to be prepared for the team just because you’re a young player performing. You have got to show the supervisor that you’re ready.”
So can he attain 400+ appearances for Chelsea like his boss and John Terry?
“You hear all this stuff about there isn’t going to be just another academy player coming but look at it.
“There are various players coming through. Now it has happened I’m focused on working hard and playing as many matches as I can.”
Mount is anticipated to be called up to the England squad and that he isn’t shy about concealing his career dreams.
“I certainly think we could achieve major things. If that is World Cups or Euros you must establish the aim that high .
“Consider how well the players did at the World Cup. That is a huge goal for me, winning a large trophy for my nation is a fantasy.”
Growing up a Portsmouth lover, Mount faces Southampton on Super Sunday. When his youthful team-mates and he continue to improve, the optimism about Chelsea could survive for a while.
