Company behind bid to stage La Liga games in US takes football authority to court

The organiser of this International Champions Cup has launched a legal case against US football authorities – games being played at the USA.
Relevent Sports tried to arrange a La Liga match between Girona and Barcelona however, the program was scrapped at the face of resistance.
It then attempted to sponsor an Ecuadorian league match in the US on 5 May, but that also was blocked by the United States Soccer Federation (USSF), even though Relevent stated it had procured a stadium for the fixture and had received written approval by the Ecuador’s league and its national association, plus the regional regulatory body.
In court documents lodged in New York, Relevent asserts the USSF is currently acting in an anti-competitive manner.
It says the USSF enables also the Campeon de Campeones along with the annual Mexican Cup to be performed in California.
These matches are organised with a rival game promoter, Soccer United Marketing (SUM). SUM is owned by the Major League Soccer clubs and has exclusive rights to advertise the men’s and women teams of that the USA – its relationship with the USSF is currently the subject of cases.
No date has been set to be noticed.
Relevent also says entire world governing body is an opinion, not a law.
Relevant is adamant its goal is only to sponsor two or three La Liga games in the US annually, although the firm’s magnetic executive chairman Charlie Stillitano has previously said he would relish the opportunity to market Premier League games.
Additionally, it has noted that US sports, especially the NFL and Major League Baseballand regular season matches in England, have played to crowds over the past 12 months.
The Premier League has said it does not have any plans. An worldwide round – the 39th game – was proposed in 2008 but two years after stated the Premier League said it was being considered.
The USSF fell to comment on the present legal action of Relevant but called a statement issued if there was a previous law suit obtained in April.
Inside, it said:”When Relevent asked to host a competitive league game in Miami between 2 Ecuadorean clubs, his program went through our review process for international game endorsement, which we conduct on the over a hundred applications we receive each year from heaps of promoters.
“As part of the review process, we reached out to the Ecuadorean Soccer Federation and also [South American Football Confederation] Conmebol to validate whether they were conscious that the proposal involved a competitive league match. As of today, we’ve yet to receive a response.
“At the same time, we also reached out to Fifa and verified that the Fifa Council’s October 2018 confirmation stating’the sporting principle that official league matches should be performed within the territory of their respective member association’.”
Luis Manfredi, the chief executive director of the league that was overburdened, was used to work for the Spanish team and it’s suggested by some that current La Liga president Javier Tebas, regarded as the driving force behind the strategy to sponsor a Spanish league match in the USA, is using relations inside the club to test the recent regulations.
